3. Who owns the choreography and music?
Original work avoids licensing disputes and gives your event uniqueness. If your producer can’t answer this clearly, you’re inheriting their legal risk.
4. What’s the insurance situation?
Aerial and fire performers require specific coverage. Ask for the certificate before signing. Public liability minimums vary by jurisdiction — your venue’s compliance team will need this anyway.
5. What’s the cultural sensitivity protocol?
Especially for international or mixed audiences, you want a producer who proactively raises this. The best producers will tell you what won’t work for your audience before you ask.
6. What happens if a performer is unavailable on the day?
Understudy plans separate professionals from amateurs. The right answer includes specific names, not “we’ll handle it.”
7. Can I see the technical rider now?
The earliest version. If they say it’s “coming,” you’re hiring a marketing pitch, not a production team.
